Does anyone have any pictures or seen a HT with crown molding around the top that is dropped down about 3-4 inches and has rope light for indirect light to bounce off the celing? I was thinking of doing it, and wondering if others have tried.
How does it look during the day? I'm just worried that it'll look weird with out the rope light on in normal day light.
Another question on the same lines, I'm painting my room red, with a black front wall. What color to paint trim molding and also the crown? Same as the walls that it's next to (black/red)?

I would not paint the Crown molding or any other trim the same color as the walls. The whole idea of trim is to give a color contrast to the room. I always paint the room a desired color and paint all the trim (Crown, baseboard, casing etc.) white. White will give you the best contrast for any color.
Actually, I am in the process of doing just that. My molding will be about 1 foot below ceiling level, but it is attached to 1" x 1" blocking that goes on the wall first. The molding actually angles out from the wall that way leaving a "trough" along the top. you can then set your rope lights in the trough and out of site so they are not visible in the daylight. I've already done it in our bedroom without the lights so maybe I can get a picture posted for ya.
