Glenn Beck is one of the countries BIGGEST morons packing less insight into America than say Morton Downey Jr. but this time the right winger has gone too far but calling Brian Urlacher a "neo Nazi" in one of his rants about a list from TheRoot.com about "the blackest white people."
First off, the list sounds racist to me.
Second off - I recently met Brian and hosted him for 18 holes of golf at my club. He is a generous, well-spoken man with long history of charity. He loves the game and is a very good player. Even as a die-hard Eagles fan, I would have him back out to Riviera ANY TIME. He's a great guy and doesn't deserve to be slammed like this. Only quarterbacks deserve to be slammed like this.

Did you watch the video? He was making a joke (although one could say it was in poor taste) and then called James Carville a "Space Alien."
If you didn't know who Urlacher and looked at his picture, he fits the stereotype of a New Nazi because he has a shaved head. Furthermore, the Huff Post didn't show the entire segment, only 26 seconds so we don't know where Beck was going with his comments. This screams of a case of something being taken completely out of context by the media and trying to drive traffic to their site (the Huff Post). Didn't something similar happen last week with the White House, Fox News (O'Reilly and Hannity), and a certain government official whose selectively edited speech made it sound like she was a racist when she actually wasn't? To O'Reilly's credit, he came on the air the next night and apologized to the lady and admitted his mistake.
The problem with media today (all media...both right and left) is they've gotten lazy and all seem to be emulating TMZ in order to get higher ratings. Frankly, I think it's pathetic.
I don't know if calling someone a neo-nazi is funny but a space alien is more funny I guess. Carville is funny looking. If you called Brian "funny looking" he could (but wouldn't) plant you four feet into the ground. He's MASSIVE.
I agree with David. Both the left and right use sensationalism to get ratings. Morton Downey Jr used to do it. Glenn Beck does it. PETA does it from the other side.
One of the things that I hope we can develop here is room for MORE than one opinion on a topic. Jim_S and I basically disagree on EVERYTHING politically but we are pretty good friends. He busts my balls and I bust his. I think The Spot has been a little too uptight for a while. Hopefully, we can open up the discourse a bit and also have SOME fun too. If things get out of control Jim and the other moderators will have to reel things back again but I believe in the Spot users.

I'm more Right than Left (which makes me right most of the time ;)), but I call a spade a spade. My most watched commentator is Bill O'Reilly and I agree with him a lot of time, just not all the time.
As for Beck, I've read a couple of his books and they're entertaining, but his view of history is skewed in one direction and he doesn't look at things with an open mind.
The past couple of years I've been on a history kick and have read a lot of books on the founding fathers and the formation of our country. They aren't the "gods" some people on the right make them out to be and they aren't the "elitist's" those on the left like to call them. Most were just pissed-off at how England was treating America and had the balls to stand up to the mother country. Did they gain economically? Certainly, but they went "all in" on their bet and if America didn't prevail they and their families would have been economically devastated and most would have hung from a rope.
Hell, look at Benjamin Franklin's son...he chose the wrong side and Franklin essentially disowned him.

Hmmm, seems like someone else here is perhaps doing the same thing with this thread, using sensationalism/controvers y to drive traffic, er, ratings?
... Nahh, I must be wrong.
p.s. us Irishmen tend more to just forget about who picked the fight to begin with.

He drove a black and white pirate ship at 190 mph.

Tim,
The Irish just want to settle their differences with a pint or two. After a couple hours, they forget what side they were on and begin to sing Irish folk-songs
It's all entertainment that caters to whichever kind of kool aid you are drinking.
all b.s. if you ask me. just stop taking my money and making a bigger mess.
I read a lot more than i used to as well. mostly austrian economic theory. robert murphy specifically.
"what's past is prologue"
i like a jefferson quote though:
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
Ooops too late.

"Before last week, Brian Urlacher had never heard of Glenn Beck.
After Beck, the Fox News personality, called the Bears linebacker a neo-Nazi during his show, Urlacher quickly found out a little background on Beck from others.
"One of my buddies called me and told me that I was going to think it was funny and it was funny," Urlacher said. "It's dumb. I think people blew it out of proportion."
Beck apologized at Foxnews.com.
But Urlacher saw no need.
"I don't think the guy was being malicious," he said. "He has a show, he was being funny, and that's it. He didn't know who I was, obviously. Even if he wouldn't have apologized, it wouldn't have been a big deal to me. I don't care about all that stuff.""
